Licensing FAQ

Regardless of the cost of entering a race, you will also need a license to race. A racing license is basically insurance for the riders and organisers. Without one, you will not be allowed to compete. You have lots of options for licensing, please read below for the one that will suit you.

FREE MTBA LICENSE
For a limited time MTBA is offering a FREE 2 month membership. It is only available if you haven’t had a MTBA race license in the last 2 years. Go to www.joinmtba.com for all the details

Day Passes
At all RATS Cycling Club races (and most of the others) you can purchase MTBA day licenses at a cost of $25. Kids will also need to race on a full license, as we want everyone to have full coverage. Because of this RATS have decided to allow kids to race for free. You can also get day licenses from Cycling Queensland (CQ) clubs. The cost of the CQ day licenses will vary as they are sometimes subsidised by the clubs.

3 Month License
New for 2016 is the MTBA 3 month license. For a senior it is around $75, junior 13-18 is $55. This license will cover you for the whole QLDCX race season – if you signup the day before the first race! See MTBA Membership Types for all the details.

Full License
The last option is to join a club. If you are going to race all year, this is the way to go. Here you have 2 options, joining a Mountain Biking Australia club (MTBA) or Cycling Queensland club (CQ). The actual cost of these licenses depends on the individual club.

MTBA Senior racing membership is around $145, kids under 13 is $65 annually. If you would like to go with this option we suggest RATS Cycling Club. Your MTBA license covers you for competition in all MTBA races, such as cross country, enduros, downhill etc. See MTBA Membership Types for all the details.

CQ Senior racing membership is around $294, kids under 13 is $66 annually. If you would like to go with this option we suggest Hamilton Wheelers. Your CQ licence covers you for competition in all CQ races, such as crits, road races, track etc.
